Always With You: Meow & Mystery has four playable characters: Mia, a courageous girl searching for her missing mother, and her three feline companions. Every puzzle in the game is built around switching between them, so knowing who does what is the core skill.

How the characters work in puzzles
The Steam page describes the system simply: you switch freely between the girl and the cats to navigate obstacles. The pattern the demo teaches is:
- Mia handles everything a child can — walking, pushing, pulling levers.
- The cats fit where she cannot: pipes, gaps, and narrow passages.
- Each cat has a unique ability — the official materials promise "three uniquely spirited cats" with distinct skills.
Ability names are not public yet
The developer has introduced each cat's look and personality, but the exact name and mechanics of every cat ability have not been officially documented in text. Pages linked above collect what is confirmed and mark the rest as to be confirmed.
Beyond the party
The world of Alto holds more than the four heroes: shadow creatures stalk the forest in the story, and the guardians of Alto serve as the full game's boss battles. The developer's interview with Bahamut GNN also teases side characters in Mia's journey — including, memorably, a grandfather who sets out for far-off lands.
